Privacy Policy for Slowcat

Effective date: September 2, 2026

Slowcat changes the playback speed, pitch, reverb and bass of HTML5 media. Audio processing happens locally on the user's device.

Information handled

To provide its visible features, Slowcat handles HTML media elements, audio samples, page-provided track titles, artist names, cover art, the current site's hostname and effect settings. Chrome considers website content and the current site to be user data even when they are processed only on the device.

How information is used

Media and audio are used only to produce the effect selected by the user. Track metadata and artwork are used only for the now-playing display and local accent colors. The hostname is used to identify DRM-protected services and label the current source. Presets and defaults are stored in Chrome sync storage; live effect state is stored temporarily in Chrome session storage.

Collection, sharing and sale

Slowcat has no developer server, analytics, advertising or tracking. The developer does not receive, collect, sell or share browsing history, website content, audio, personal information or settings. The popup may request a page-provided cover-art URL directly from the server hosting that image so it can display and analyze the image locally. No page content is sent to the developer.

Permissions

Website access is required to find and process HTML5 media on supported pages and inside embedded players. Storage access is required for saved presets, defaults and temporary per-tab state. The extension uses the minimum functionality needed for this single purpose and does not execute remote code.

Retention and deletion

Audio, artwork pixels, track metadata and hostnames are not written to persistent extension storage. Temporary tab state is cleared with the Chrome session. Saved presets and defaults remain in Chrome extension storage until the user changes them, clears extension data or uninstalls Slowcat.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes and contact

This page will be updated before a release changes these practices. Privacy questions can be sent to the verified support email displayed on Slowcat's Chrome Web Store listing.
